Born in Toronto, I made my home in nine other cities or towns from 2000-2010. Map Making featured photographs from each of these places and was produced in part through the process of unpacking: sifting through the chronicles of nomadic living.
In February 2011, I returned to Toronto with a performance project (presented by Buddies in Bad Times’ Rhubarb Festival) where I invited audiences to mark points of significance on a map of Toronto to help her relearn the city. I visited these locations over a three day period, making portraits of the places and meeting with strangers at each point. Photographs from nine of these locations anchored the exhibition.
Map Making was a collection of fragments of particular times-spaces and their mutual influence.
